After 18 months of research and product improvement, Espero has been awarded Cradle to Cradle certification for all of its products in one go!
We were awarded “basic” certification for our mobile walls, but for our mobile glass walls, we delighted to receive the “bronze” certificate. Every type of wall manufactured by Espero consists of a varied range of materials, so we worked closely with a relatively large number of suppliers to achieve this result. All the materials used in our walls with C2C are now fully re-usable. That means the Espero’s walls have a favourable impact on the environment; Espero, meanwhile, will continue to work on the standards for sustainability, just as Cradle to Cradle.
Cradle to Cradle?
The current industrial system is based on linear production, that is to say, the life cycle of most products progress from production to consumption to waste; however, our C2C walls are manufactured according to a recycling system. Mark Delany, Espero BV’s director, says: “Cradle to Cradle is exactly what its name implies: it’s a new business model that aims to design high-quality products that are safe, healthy and recyclable from beginning to end. It means linking up the cycle of raw materials: the manufacture and consumption of goods without harming people or the environment, a cycle in which waste serves as raw materials. The intention is not just to do less badly but, in fact, to do better: we are switching from eco-efficiency to eco-effectiveness, which is necessary because raw materials are growing increasingly scarce though waste and pollution are increasing. C2C is different from other sustainability programmes because it’s not simply aimed at reducing the harmful impact; in fact, it is aimed at creating added value for people and the environment by means of products that are well designed in terms of quality. It means turning a harmful ecological footprint into a footprint that does good.”
